Not many people consider bananas and oranges as a great match, nor do you think of bananas when it comes to juice – they tend to make much better smoothies. However, I decided to try this combination, and was very, very impressed with the results. The banana makes it frothy, and also takes away from the acidity of the oranges. Somehow, it make a sweet juice, with a nice silky texture – not to mention, it is very, very healthy.

Banana Orange Juice

1 medium sized banana
4 juicing oranges

Peel banana and add it to the blender. Juice oranges in a citrus juicer (or you could use your juicing machine). Add orange juice to blender and blend until smooth. There is no need to add anything else to this juice, it is delicious as is. One way to alter it would be to add milk. This makes it taste a bit creamier, and gives it sort of an orange creamsicle taste. Also delicious and very healthy. A great smoothie option.

Banana Strawberry Juice

1 medium sized banana
4 juicing oranges

I tried the same thing but with strawberries instead of oranges. The results were pretty decent, but not as good as oranges and bananas. This one was better as a smoothie, with milk added. Nonetheless, both options are great, and if you’re looking for less calories, or your juicing for health, then the banana strawberry juice is delicious.

Juicing can boost your health in so many ways. Not only are you injecting your body with vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, and other healthy stuff, you are doing so in a 100% natural way. This is also the reason that juicing is great for weight loss!!! Although some fruits are high in sugars and calories, the way your body processes them is much different than other sweets. Fruit juices therefore make a sweet, super tasty snack that is great for your health!

If you are looking for juicing recipes for weight loss, try adding some vegetables to your fruit juices. Most vegetables tend to be much lower calorie than most fruits, mainly because they have less sugars. For example, let´s compare.

Banana – 200 g banana has 177 calories. **Don´t be fooled by numbers…although bananas are high calories, and high sugars, they can be great for weight loss!

Tomato – 200g tomato has 36 calories

Apple – 200g apple has 104 calories

Celery – 200g celery has 33 calories

***Data retrieved from Nutrition Data, and then scaled to 200g servings***

By using juices to substitute other foods from your diet that are high calorie and full of empty calories, you will be on the road to a much healthier you. This could include weight loss, better skin, more energy, and better brain power. Not sure how to create your own tasty juices? Here are a few juicer recipes for weight loss that are delicious, easy, and low-calorie!

Super Tomato Juice
3 ripe tomatoes
½ cucumber
1 stalk celery
1 tsp salt
½ tsp pepper

As you see above, tomatoes are very low calorie, but are extremely healthy. Add to juicer and enjoy!

Green Orange Juice
1 tbsp ground ginger, or 1 inch piece washed
2 large navel oranges
1 tbsp wheatgrass. If you can´t find wheatgrass, substitute with baby spinach

This juice is quick, easy, and delicious, and kids love the “green” orange juice! Just add those ingredients to your juicer, and enjoy! This one can also be made in a blender. Juice the oranges, grate the ginger, and add the ingredients to the blender. Blend until smooth.

Spinach and Banana Smoothie
1 cup of washed baby spinach
1 banana
½ cup of milk or water

This smoothie combines one super vegetable with one super fruit, making a super smoothie. Try with both milk and water, they both taste quite different!

Surtido
2 apples
1 beet
1 small cucumber
2 carrots (organic or local, if possible, they are always much sweeter)
2 stalks celery
2 large carrots

Scrub the root vegetables clean, and add to juicer. This one is like taking a liquid multivitamin!

We love to share our gourmet juice recipes with you, and what is more gourmet than juices made with this Amazonian lemon-like fruit???? It is called a camu-camu, and although hard to find, is definitely worth looking for it. See video we’ve included below for some more info.

This fruit has a flavor similar to that of lemon juice, although slightly “fruitier” and more tropical, if that makes any sense. It has to be combined with juices that have some sweetness to them, or you will have to add sugar to the juice. Some fantastic combinations include maracuya, strawberries, oranges, granny smith apples, pinneaple, and kiwis. Here are some recommended gourmet, healthy juices made with camu-camu.

Green and Red Apple with Camu Camu Juice

Granny smith apples combine best with the camu camu, but the red apples in this add a bit of a sweetness, making it a perfect combination, and no need to add sugar. This is a juice that is very high in Vitamin C, and is fairly low calorie, making it great for weight loss. This juice must be made in a juicer, its just not the same in a blender.

2 granny smith apples
2 red delicious apples
1 tsp grated ginger (just a hint for a spec of flavor, but its important)
5 camu camus

Add to juicer, and enjoy!!!!

Passionfruit Strawberry Orange and Camu Camu Juice

Another to die (live?) for combination. I love maracuya, I think it is perhaps my favorite fruit for juices. It is also very acidic, though the strawberries diminish the acidity. Its best to use really sweet oranges, otherwise, sugar may be necessary. ***Note: These are also spectacular for making fruit freezes***

10 strawberries
1 Passion Fruit
5 camu camus
6 sweet oranges

This one does not need a juicer. Can be made in a blender or a juicer. This one is a super vitamin C kick, and is VERY refreshing.

Pineapple Golden Kiwi and Camu Camu Juice

This doesn’t actually have to be made with golden kiwi, but I prefer it. It can be made in a juicer or a blender, but if made in a blender, you will probably want to strain it. It is very tropical, quite sweet (as long as you can find good pineapple) and ooooos o tasty. The kids love this one.

2 cups Pineapple
2 Golden Kiwis
3 Camu Camu

This may seem like a weird combination, but this is a killer juice. Truly unbelievable, it may be my new favorite. The trick is to have lots of strawberries and lots of orange juice. The blueberries shouldn’t be overpowering, you just want a few to add a bit of sweetness to the juice, which should be somewhat tart. It also gives it a rich, dark red color. Here are approximate amounts, but it depends a lot on the strawberries and blueberries – such as how sweet or tart they are.

For 2 glasses of this delicious, healthy, low fat juice:

4 oranges
10 strawberries
1/4 cup blueberries

Wash well all fruit. Peel oranges, add to juicer, and then add the strawberries and blueberries. Juice. And enjoy!

This can easily be made with a blender, but you’ll have to strain it.

Grapefruit Apple Orange Kiwi and Ginger Juicer

1-2 inch piece of ginger, cleaned and peeled.
2 granny smith apples

It´s unlikely that anyone has never heard of açai juice. Its claim to fame, of course, is that it is a super food, one that some scientists (and salesmen) claim can help with dozens of health problems.

Whether these are true or not are always up in the air, and I´ve heard some great debates on the subject. Regardless of what you believe, there is no doubt that at the very least, açai berries are a very healthy fruit, and they have a nice flavor that makes for perfect juices. If you ever go to Brazil, where they grow açai, they have juice bars everywhere that serve açai juice, for next to nothing!

Açai Juice Benefits

So what is açai juice so good for? The supposed benefits listed on certain sites, such as this one, make it sound like the holy grail. Fo example:

Increased mental clarity
Increased sexual prowess
Improved blood circulation
More energy
Improved vision….

The list goes on. Most of these are highly unlikely. For example, your vision will not improve. You can help protect your eyes by taking açai because of the vitamins, but you will not cure vision problems. So what benefits can you expect?

Like most superfuits, the açai berries are full of antioxidants and tons of vitamins, making it a very healthy addition to your diet. If you make it a regular part of your diet, it will be very good for your health…but don’t expect miracles.

If you are able to find açai berries, here are two great recipes for juices.

Açai Banana Juice

This is more of a smoothie, but it packs a lot of energy into one drink, and tons of useful vitamins. Perfect for pre or post-workout!

½ cup açai berries

1 banana

2 tbsp brown sugar, guarana syrop, or maple syrop

4 ice cubes (optional)

¾ cup water

Add all ingredients to a blender, and blend until smooth. Enjoy!

Açai Berry Juice

½ cup açai berries

1 cup blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries (or any combination, with a minimum two types of berries)

1 cup fresh squeezed orange juice

Add all ingredients to a juicer, juice, and enjoy!! This could also be made in a blender, but you would have to strain it if you do not like pulp.

Juices are typically served either for breakfast or for lunch, and are rarely paired with a dinner. This is an unfortunate mistake. Juices can go extremely well with dinners, and can actually make your dinners taste better, similar to wine. And, just like wine, you have to know which juices go best with which meals. This is often a matter of taste, but there are some general rules involved.

All types of citrus juices tend to go best with seafood, especially orange juice, grapefruit juice, or passionfruit juice (or any juice that has a combination of the three). The citrus flavors don´´t overpower the seafood flavors, and actually help to bring out the flavor of the fish/shellfish. For example, select your favorite form these delicious shrimp recipes, and pair it with an orange/grapefruit juice.

Spicy Asian dishes (and Peruvian dishes) foods also go well with citrus juices, because the citrus tends to cut through the spiciness. In this case, a slighter sweeter citrus juice is the best option. For example, a sweet lemonade, or a strawberry-orange-grapefruit juice would be perfect when paired with a Thai red curry. You´ll notice the sweetness cuts right through the heavy spices.

Chicken and pork go well with slightly sweet juices, especially any of the berries. Kiwi and apple juices are also a great option, especially for pork. For example, a strawberrry blueberry juice would go perfect with a chicken breast covered in a light sauce. An apple-kiwi juice would go great with a pork tenderloin.

**Beef does not go particularly well with juices, and in this case, I recommend you stick to wine. There is nothing better than a nice Malbec with a big juicy steak!**
